New York State and Local Retirement System

Retirement Online is a simple, convenient way to update your contact information, view or update your beneficiaries, apply for/manage loan/service credit payments, estimate your pension benefit or apply for retirement.  In many cases, you can use Retirement Online instead of sending forms through the mail or calling the retirement system.


The ERS website houses an abundance of helpful information for both active members and retirees.  For those who are approaching retirement, there are dedicated pages with resources and helpful information to specifically help with the decision and planning.

PREPARING TO RETIRE - This page displays a timeline starting approximately 18 months before your intended retirement date, along with steps to take and guidance as you consider this decision.

For active members, reading the quartly newsletters is a great way to stay connected with news from the New York State and Local Retirement System (NYSLRS).  It's packed with useful information about your NYSLRS benefits. Find out about your final average earnings, what you can do in Retirement Online, how a domestic relations order can affect your benefits, and what you need to know if you’re retiring this year.

An important message from NYSLRS:

Your Retirement System Member Annual Statement contains valuable information about your NYSLRS membership and future retirement benefits through March 31, so it’s important to make sure you receive and review it each year.  You can choose to view your annual statement using Retirement Online, NYSLRS’ self-service retirement account information tool.

To receive your annual statement in Retirement Online, register for or sign in to your account (https://www.osc.state.ny.us/retire/retirement_online/customers.php). From your account homepage, click ‘Update’ next to ‘Member Annual Statement by,’ and choose ‘email’ from the dropdown. When your statement is ready to view in May each year, you’ll get an email that directs you to Retirement Online to see it.  You can also update your delivery preference for other NYSLRS correspondence by clicking ‘Update’ next to ‘Contact by’ on your account homepage. Choosing ‘email’ as your delivery preference will ensure you receive retirement information as quickly as possible.

Now is also a good time to check and update all your retirement system contact information in Retirement Online. After you sign in, click on ‘Update’ next to your home address and email address. This will take you to the page where you can edit your information and save the changes.  Keep in mind that if you’ve changed addresses recently, NYSLRS may not have your correct address on file.
