Public Speaking Class Hosts We Shape the World Event June 4 & 5 2019
Seniors in Melissa DaCosta’s Public Speaking classes hosted, “We Shape the World” event, modeled after TED talks, on June 4th and June 5th. The popular, non-profit organization, TED is best known for their short (18 minutes or less) and inspirational talks. TED is a global community that strives to build an archive of free information from the world’s most inspired thinkers. The class modeled this event after TED talks and even hosted the event in the auditorium.
The students in the public speaking class presented their inspiration talks to an audience of students and faculty members. Talks ranged from music in education to the American dream.
Melissa DaCosta said, “each student was able to pick a topic that was meaningful to them. I wanted students to do some thinking and speak about what they are passionate about. Once students decided on a topic, we worked on stage presence, body language, and voice delivery. I wanted to give students a real speaking engagement experience.”
Kalissa Santiago is a student in the public speaking class. Kalissa said, “This class just individually is different than any other class because we get to choose which direction we want to go in. With this project, we got to talk about what we are passionate about. In the beginning the hardest thing to do is find something you are passionate about.”
This project combined advocacy and passion and can be seen on the CVC website or by clicking here.
