14 Seniors Graduate from TC3 with Associates Degree

TC3 Graduates

Graduating high school with your NYS Diploma is an achievement. Graduating high school with an Associates Degree and NYS diploma is a major honor and accomplishment. This year, fourteen Cortland students accomplished this feat.

Cortland High School has a partnership with Tompkins Cortland Community College called “College Now.” This program allows high school students across the area to take college level classes while they are in high school. Some students take 1-3 college level classes, however students that complete all of the requirements for an Associates Degree are allowed to take part in the commencement ceremony.

On May 23, 2019, Tompkins Cortland Community College celebrated its fiftieth commencement ceremony. As the graduates walked across the stage, parents and family members cheered. Fourteen of these students were students from Cortland High School. While participating in the College Now program, between Cortland High School and TC3, these students were able to achieve enough credits to graduate with an Associates Degree.

Cortland High School Counselor Lauryn Abdo, was in the audience. As she held flowers for the 14 graduates she said, “I can’t express enough how proud I am of these students. How they balanced sports and activities along with their academic course work is impressive. Achieving an Associates Degree in High School is something that makes them very special.”

Ella Wilson is a senior at Cortland High School and one of the 14 students that achieved their Associates Degree and participated in the commencement ceremony on May 23. Ella said, “I participated in the College Now program because I wanted to challenge myself and be able to take extra courses while I was in high school. During the commencement ceremony, I felt really proud of all that I accomplished. I would recommend that other students at Cortland High School take advantage of the College Now program. It is a great program and a good way to get ahead before you even start college.”

The following students achieved their Associates Degree from TC3 via the the College Now Program:  Meredith Brafman, Tess Engst-Mansilla, Aaron Hughes, Kelley Morgan, Kara Perkins, Daniel Ruggiero, Alexander Ryan, Andrew Ryan, Merrill Storch, Christopher Tanner, Kristen Tasselmyer, Rhen Waldbauer, Ella Wilson, and Elyssa Yonta.
