Teacher learning heats up when the weather gets cold! In the spirit of personal growth and the new year, the Cortland Enlarged City School District has launched a month of learning opportunities which we call January Term ( J-Term). J-term is modeled after college and university winter course offerings. The purpose of J-term at the college level is to enable students to pursue academic interest in a condensed time frame that allows for more intensive study. Here, in Cortland, J-Term provides staff with the chance to learn something new in a similarly condensed format.
Course offerings for staff include learning about technology tools such as StoryBoardThat, Peardeck, Virtual Field Trips, Nearpod and Flocabulary. There is also a variety teaching topics, such as active learning strategies, using centers effectively, formative assessment tools, and higher order thinking strategies. Trainers from OCM BOCES Instructional Support Services, School Library Systems, and Cortland teachers will be teaching the sessions.
We are excited to launch these 2018 J-Term offerings for our instructional staff! Our teachers never stop learning!
