Parker Partners with N.Y.U.

Toward Culturally Responsive Education
Consultants from NYU/Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development visit Parker to support our understanding of Culturally Responsive Education.  We have implemented Instructional Rounds, a practice for improving our craft.  Essentially, teams of teachers visit one another's classrooms, and share practices that focus on students' strengths and assets (knowledge, interests, etc.) in order to increase engagement and success in school.  These activities help us to understand risk factors (things about a student that may prevent one from fully engaging in learning) and protective factors (teacher decisions, specific to sudents, that they support learning).

The Equity Team debriefs to identify effective practices noted during classroom visits.

Mr. Wallis provides choices for student roles within cooperative            learning groups. Students' assets are leveraged to help the group of students achieve success.
