The Cortland Enlarged City School District is thrilled to announce that the varsity athletic program has been named a designated Schools of Excellence for its classroom achievements.
In order to be named a School of Excellence, a school must have 75 percent of its varsity teams earn scholar-athlete status (earning a grade point average of 90 or above). Cortland is proud to have 20 of its 24 varsity teams qualify for this award.
“I am extremely proud of the commitment the Cortland student-athletes have shown to their academic success,” Athletic Director Tim Wagoner said. “Cortland Athletics encourages student-athletes to emphasize their academics. Achievement off the playing field is just as important as performance on the field. It is our hope that all 24 teams will qualify for the award next year.”
In addition Logan Chase and Will Pace earned 2017 Section III Scholar Athlete award recognition. Logan and Will have demonstrated academic success at Cortland Senior High and both were three-sport varsity athletes.
