A Year in the Life of a Link Crew Leader

April   
20        Meeting with Executive Principal to review Link Crew Program, share implementation plan, time line and identify resources needed

May
1          Coordinators met to discuss and outline implementation plan
8          Provided information for staff at Faculty meeting, purpose and criteria for student leaders
9-23     Recruitment of student leaders for Link Crew
10        Deadline for student recommendation from staff
24-25   Coordinators reviewed all applications that were submitted
29        Letter of acceptance and rejection were sent home

June
5          June Development Day held in the evening 3 pm – 5 pm.

July
12        Coordinator planning meeting

August
29-30   Training dates for Link leaders: 6 hours each day for two days doing all training and small group preparation for orientation. All incoming freshmen are telephoned at this time. Finish all preparation for training and orientation making nametags, supply bags, etc. Database is created for every freshman with his/her Link Leader     

September
4          Orientation day, 7 am – 12:30 pm

All Leaders contact their freshman during the first two weeks of school.
28         Coordinators planned for two Social Follow-Ups activities and three Academic Follow-           Ups lessons

October
2          Re-energizer with Link Leaders in LGI during 5, 6, 7 periods to explain Academic         Follow-Ups, Social Follow-Ups, Student-Initiated Contacts, and Leadership Training    Day.  Link Leaders sign up for one or two year long committees. The purpose of Beads for Deeds activity  was explained which reinforced opportunities for Link Leaders to       maintain connections with ninth graders.
3          Link Leaders serve as guides for parents during Open House. (wear shirts) serve as       guides for parents during Open House

November
1-2       Academic Follow-Up was Managing Time conducted in the Science classes.  Two Link            Crew Leaders co-taught the lesson.  The teacher and student completed an evaluation       after each class.
14        Four Link Crew Leaders facilitated a workshop for High School Leadership Day at       SUNY Cortland.  They modeled the activities used during the 9th grade Orientation Day.
            They also shared the year long plan for Link Crew at CJSHS.

December
12        Link Crew Winter Energizer (2:45 pm – 4:15 pm).  This was a planned activity to renew            and connect the Link Crew Leaders with their respective ninth graders.  The Energizer    mirrored the format used during Orientation Day in both small and large groups.  Pizza        was served.

 

2008

January 
11        Freshman sign up for Cocoa and Cram during lunch.
15, 17  Cocoa and Cram (7:00 pm – 8:30 pm in West Commons).  This activity was an            opportunity to combine both academic and social follow up.  Link Crew Leaders      volunteered to tutor ninth grader in English, Math, Social Studies, Science and Foreign     Language in preparation for Regents and mid-term exams.  Cocoa and cookies was      served.
