Musical Concepts


1. Melody
a. singing songs from a wide variety of cultures
b. mallet percussion and recorder performance to further musical expression


2. Harmony
a. singing in rounds, use of ostinati (repeated patterns), partner songs
b. adding mallet percussion to add color and texture to sung music


3. Rhythm
a. beat, patterns


4. Form
a. phrases, analyzing structure


5. Expressive Qualities
a. tempo, dynamics, timbre/tone color, movement

Expectations


-All students are required to participate in classroom activities

-Singing, dancing, playing, composing/improvising, analyzing/describing, listening
-Enjoy music making to better the community and individual

Grading


All 4th-6th graders are graded in music the second and fourth marking periods. Students are assessed in vocal production/tonal skills, rhythm skills, listening skills, and effort/participation.
