Introduction:

Have you ever wondered...
Where did we get the Statue of Liberty?
Why is the U.S. flag red, white and blue?
How did the Liberty Bell get a crack in it?
Who wrote the Star Spangled Banner?

In this webquest, you will visit various websites to learn the answers to these questions and many more.  You will learn about important American symbols and how they came to be important.

Task:
During the course of this webquest, you will travel to different sites to learn interesting facts about some of America's famous symbols.  As you travel, you will choose at least four of the symbols listed in the Resources and Links section, take notes on them from the Information Sheet.  When you return from your trip around the country, you will create a Traveling America Brochure that will help explain what the symbols are and the history to our country.

Brochure:
After you have traveled around the country and researched four symbols to include in your brochure, you will create it.  The brochure should give others important information about the symbols of America.

1. Fold a piece of paper into thirds.

2. On the front flap, title your brochure TRAVELING AMERICA by ________________________________.

3.  Then, using the four other sections, decribe the four symbols that you have chosen and researched.  Include an illustration of the symbol, and the facts that you have gathered (location, meaning, history, etc.).  Use one section for each symbol.

4.  Decorate all of the pages in your brochure in red, white and blue.
